Swing at the edge of the Lake

If you are not ready to leave the majestic sight of the Sorabora Lake yet, head over to the edge of the lake where you will find a large swing that serves up a spectacular view of the lake.

Lake fish market

After over 30 minutes of sailing through the lake, we head towards the local fish market located at the edge of the lake. Watch as the locals come by to view the sea fish available, haggle over the price and head home with some fine lake fish. After visiting the market place, it’s time to head back to the boat and sail away to where we initially set sail. The market is open every day except on New Year’s Day and on full moon Poya days.

Lake fishing

Whilst sailing away on the calm waters of the Sorabora Lake, you’d soon spot a few local fishermen on duty. Watch as they use a traditional form of net fishing to enclose the fish and bring it ashore. With many years of practice, the task is done with great skill and ease that it seems more like an art form. They only halt their early morning routine for when they celebrate the New Year in April and on full moon Poya days.

Boat ride at Sorabora Lake

In keeping with our decision to promote responsible tourism and aid the local communities, we have partnered with a few locals to offer a scenic, hour-long boat tour across the 1440 acre body of water, known as the Sorabora Lake. Enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful views of the blue waters and, if lucky, catch the moment when a diving bird plunges into the water for a fishy snack. d.
